Marc Djokic with Anne-Julie Caron, marimba

Canadian percussionist Anne-Julie Caron distinguishes herself with her sensational performances that astonish with their deepness, colours and sensitivity.

Le Soleil wrote:

"An evocative moment, profound and dreamlike?. Anne-Julie Caron demonstrated that the expressive possibilities of the marimba can easily equal those of the violin?. The clear phrases, dynamic variety and in general, the intelligence and sensibility of the interpreter, captivated the audience attention still more."

Mainly recognized as a marimba soloist, she has won the 2007 Opus Prize 'Discovery of the year', the 2nd Prize at the 2006 International Marimba Competition in Linz, Austria, and first prize at two of the most prestigious Canadian competitions: the 2005 Montreal Symphony Standard Life Competition and the 2004 Prix d'Europe.

Bowties

Nancy Dahn, Violin & Timothy Steeves, Piano (Duo Concertante); Gordon Stobbe, Fiddle; Greg Simm, Guitar.

The violin and piano…. and the fiddle and guitar! These two pairs, one classically trained (Duo Concertante), one folk-oriented (Stobbe/Simm), come together to juxtapose, contemplate, and explore with the audience their seemingly disparate (or similar!) traditions and artistry.

With virtuosity, insight, imagination and humour, they present a thrilling musical experience spanning Bach to Benoit.

Between the Duo Concertante’s ravishing renditions of the traditional classics, and Gordon Stobbe’s toe-tapping Metis fiddle tunes, maritime airs and his own heartwarming compositions, all musical possibilities are open to discovery.

Bowties

Bowties is ECMA 2003 Roots nominee Gordon Stobbe and Greg Simm, together with Duo Concertante.

Marie-Eve Poupart, violin and Valerie Milot, harp

A winner of the Canadian Music Competition and the Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières Competition, Marie-Ève Poupart is one of the country’s most promising violinists. A graduate of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal – with a grade of 100%! – she has worked with such prestigious teachers as Maxim Vengerov, Pinchas Zukerman and Igor Oistrakh.

Described as "very refined” by La Presse, young Quebec harpist Valérie Milot’s playing is both colourful and powerful… Winner of the prestigious Prix d’Europe 2008 — the first harpist to take this honour in almost 100 years! — she will reintroduce you to this rather unsung instrument… Stir in the sounds of the violin and you have a unique musical experience…
Works by Saint-Saëns and Kikta, among others.
