Allison Bent Angelo says:
This is a concert that is very close to my heart. It is the inspiration of Kathleen van Mourik, co-artistic director of the Mountainview Festival in Calgary. We debuted this concert at the Festival in the Summer 2010, and it was just too special to let it end there.
The concert is based on the poetry inspired by the Commedia del'arte character. Pierrot, who became a popular figure in Parisian art/literature/music during the Belle Epoque. The poetry of Mallarme, Paul Verlaine, Theodore de Banville, and Guillaume Appolinaire, among others, inspired composers like Debussy, Faure, Reynaldo Hahn, Ravel, Duparc, Chausson and others.
The concert employs two pianists, a mime (Olga Primajk) depicting Pierrot, a reader (Larry Bent) and soprano. It weaves a loose dramatic narrative of Pierrot through song, acting and poetry reading set to piano music.
